The Longest Day

The Longest Day is the Alzheimer’s Association’s tribute event to honor those facing the daily challenges of living with Alzheimer’s. On June 21, 2017, the longest day of the year, members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) Iota Omega Chapter will be at Chesapeake Place to help raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and interact with Assisted Living and Memory Care residents through games and having conversations. Last year the chapter hosted an oral education program and members played games and distributed gift bags to Assisted Living residents. AKA works with the Alzheimer’s Association on the national and local level to raise awareness and educate the community about Alzheimer’s disease, support services, and generate support for Alzheimer’s programming and research.

Should you have any questions feel free to contact me at 757-436-2051.
Sincerely,

Welcome April!

We are pleased to announce the arrival of our new Executive Director! April Thomason started with Chesapeake Place on Monday, March 13, 2017. Feel free to stop in and help make April feel welcome and introduce yourself. Read on as we share the bio April provided us with.
I am excited to join the family at Chesapeake Place Assisted Living. I have been an employee of Capital Senior Living since 2015, in the role of Resident Services Director (Director of Nursing) for the Waterford at Virginia Beach, a sister community. While at the Waterford I completed the Administrator in Training program to become an Executive Director. Prior to Capital Senior Living, I worked for another assisted living company both as a charge nurse and as the Director of Nursing, along with a background of Long Term Acute Care. I graduated from Riverside as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 2013. Nursing was a career change after spending 15 years as an insurance agent specializing in Long Term Care. People and Customer Service have always been my passion.

I am a newlywed of shortly over a year to a wonderful man that I have known for 30 years. Together, with my husband Joaquin, we have a combined family of five children and one granddaughter. We live in Suffolk, VA and enjoy the farm life. Gardening, animals, and the rewards. We are learning bee keeping, we enjoy eggs from our chickens, we also enjoy our pigs, goats, and rabbits and various household animals.

I feel so blessed to be chosen as the new administrator for Chesapeake Place and have felt so welcome. If we have not yet personally met, I would love for you to pop your head in and say hello and likewise I may do the same!

April Thomason, LPN, ED
Executive Director

Indian River Beta Club

A Special thanks to the member of the Indian River Beta Club for coming out to do Christmas Karaoke with us. The residents here in our community had such a good time, and really enjoyed the uplifting spirit that these young ladies brought along with them. The list of songs they performed was endless, we sang, we danced, and we laughed the night away!

Healing Harps pt. 2

Today at Chesapeake Place we were joined by our special guest Pamela Lentz. She provided us with some lovely tunes today, and also explained how music can be therapy to not only seniors, but to all of us. When it came time for everyone to participate and allow us to hear their sounds, they were a little hesitant. Shortly after, the room was filled with the beautiful sounds of harps. Pamela allowed us to practice on all of the extra harps, and we believe we will soon be ready to take this show on the road!

Can You Keep Up?

Whew! It sure is busy here at Chesapeake Place. Today we had Pet Therapy with Riley, and we were also joined by Atlantic Shores Christian School. They came in to bring the residents the beautiful handmade ornaments that they have been working on for weeks. They were all so proud to show off their amazing artistic skills, and excited to spend a little time with one of our favorite community pets Riley. What a fun filled month it has been, and its not over yet!

Lyle and Linda

What a pleasure it has been to have this new addition added to our community calendar! Lyle and Linda are a beautiful couple who comes into our community and bring their amazing musical talent with them. While you will find Lyle on the guitar, you'll find Linda in front of the piano. They tackle two individual instruments separately, however they sing together. These two have been such a huge hit, that they have been added as a performer for not only AL, but our Memory Care building as well. We would just like to say to them to keep up the good work, and thank you for our Christmas sing-a-long!
