Autumn Feast

Corsicana Texas Trip

COLLIN STREET BAKERY, CORSICANA. In 1896 August Weidmann, a young German immigrant, open a bakery on Collin Street in Corsicana. Mr. Weidmann's specialty was a fruitcake baked by a recipe he had brought with him from his native country. The trade name of this fruitcake, was DeLuxe Fruitcake. In 1914 a Ringling Brothers circus troupe, in Corsicana for a performance, bought dozens of DeLuxe Fruitcakes to give as Christmas gifts to friends and relatives all over the United States and in Europe.In 1967 the bakery moved to its current location at 401 West Seventh Avenue.The bakery sells traditional bakery items. From October through mid-December the company bakes 30,000 fruitcakes (75,000) a day and expands its force from
fifty regular employees to more than 600. Cakes are shipped to all fifty states and more than 190 countries.

In 1923 Clara and Russell Stover begin making candy in the kitchen of their Denver bungalow home. The company, initially employing seven employees, is first known as Mrs. Stover's Bungalow Candies. In The Stover's find their business expanding rapidly and open their first factory in Kansas City, Missouri. 1943 The company name is officially changed to Russell Stover Candies. Today Russell Stover Candies is still in demand. Now available sugar free candies and chocolates, reduced carb" Chocolates and two new product lines designed for diabetic consumers.

On September 17, 2018 Crescent Point Community will be taking a trip to Corsicana Texas. We invite family and friends to join us. We will have lunch at the famous Collin Street Bakery, bringing home our favorite cakes and pies. We will continue the fun visiting Russell Stover factory and buying our favorite candies.

On September 13, 2018 Crescent Point Retirement Community will have their once a month Happy Hour Celebration. This month we are featuring Richmond Punch, Violinist. Patriot Day

On September 11, 2011, four planes were hijacked. The hijackers then deliberately flew three of the planes into two important buildings, the Pentagon in Washington DC and the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. The fourth crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The loss of life and damage that these hijackings caused form the biggest act of terrorism ever on United States soil. Nearly 3000 people died in the attacks and the economic impact was immense. The attacks have greatly increased attention to national security in the United States.
In Observance to Patriot Day, We are honored to have Mr. Bill White Mr. White will perform a special show to in honor of Patriot Day.

Crescent Point Retirement Community's Resident Council

Crescent Point Retirement Community Resident Council functions as an advisory group of community residents. The council meets the last Wednesday of each month, and the All Resident's meeting is the first Wednesday of each month. The purpose of the Resident Council are as follows:
To communicate the interest of the residents with appropriate management and staff of Crescent Point.
To promote an understanding of administrative polices and procedures among the residents.
To participate in the planning of resident activities.
To encourage resident interaction and participation.

Residents wising to become Council members may contact the Activity Director as early as June of each year.
