The Longest Day

On Thursday, June 21, 2018, the longest day of the year and summer solstice, thousands of people will join together to show their love for those affected by Alzheimer's disease. You can be one of them.

The Longest Day is all about love. Love for all those affected by Alzheimer's disease. On the summer solstice, team up with the Alzheimer’s Association and select any activity you love — or an activity loved by those affected — to help end Alzheimer’s. Together, we will raise funds and awareness for care and support while advancing research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s.

Spring Meadows has planned a day of events to raise funds for Alzheimer’s. We will have a walk around the building, one circle around equals ¼ of a mile. Each time an employee, friends of Spring Meadows or a resident walk, assisted or non-assisted around the building, a sponsor of the participate agrees to pay one dollar or more towards our goal! We also plan to have games in our Community, Activity and Lounge, where any proceeds will go towards ALZ. Can a sponsor agree to one dollar every time a resident tosses a bag in the hole during a bean bag toss?

We also are grateful for a number of local businesses donating goods to raise funds during a silent auction. If any of you out there reading this article would like to also donate for the silent auction, please contact our facility at 847-816-9990. Any family members, friends and employees are encouraged to attend this event. Be a sponsor, a contributor or participate to make this ALZ “Longest Day” a success!

Matt Workshop

Earlier this year our residents got involved in making plastic bag mats for the homeless. There is a long process behind the making of the mats, but together our residents are able to get the job done. Some residents cut bags while others are joining strips of bags for the plastic yarn or "plarn" as others call it, and a few other residents are actually crocheting or braiding the plastic yarn to create the mats! On Monday, May 14th and Monday, May 28th we will have a special matt workshop where our residents can assist in this voluntary work. Residents divvy up the work and get the job done quickly! We will have more mat workshops as time goes by, but for this month these are the days that will be set apart for this task.

Pretty Peonies

This past weekend, a couple from town got married and decided to donate their beautiful centerpieces to Spring Meadows! What a sweet thing to do! Spring Meadows thanks this anonymous couple and appreciates their kindness. The flowers were put up all around the building and the residents all loved them. What a great way to give back to the community!

Shake Those Maracas!

Earlier this month we had an entertainer, Matt Cantlon, come in to perform. He had maracas for all the residents and played fun tunes from their times! The residents really did enjoy his performance! He also brought along a ukulele, aside from his guitar, and played some songs. Toes tapping & hands clapping, way to go Matt, your music was well liked!
