Successful First Responders Barbecue - Featured on 22NEWS

On May 30, 2018 The Wellington at Springfield held our semi-annual First Responders Appreciation Barbecue.

We were able to serve dozens of emergency, fire and police personnel.

Our event was featured on 22NEWS here http://www.wwlp.com/news/local-news/retirement-community-offers-free-lun...

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield retirement community provided lunch for police, firefighters and ambulance service EMTs.

This is the second year that Wellington of Springfield has honored first responders with a barbecue.

It's Wellington's way of thanking the men and women who have to arrive at a moment's notice to help a resident with a medical emergency.

"They're typically here on the spot taking care of our residents and preempting what's going to happen in the emergency room," Wellington's Executive Director Liz Skerry-Hastings explained. "And they certainly are life savers in a lot of instances."

Because they're on such a tight schedule, they had just enough time for a quick lunch and to thank the senior community for being appreciated.

First Responders Barbeque

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An expression of appreciation Wednesday, to the men and women who are the first responders during a Springfield emergency.

The Wellington at Springfield, an assisted living community, invited police officers, firefighters and ambulance personnel to a barbecue lunch.

Firefighter Willie Spears said the invitation means a great deal to them, “It makes us feel good, and of course as soon as we heard about a barbecue, we want to come out and have some good food.”

Wellington at Springfield management intends to hold these first responder barbecues twice a year.
