Chapter Chat

Chapter Chat meets in the Library!

A delightful novel of one woman's transformative journey, from the best-selling and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer.
Willa Drake can count on one hand the defining moments of her life. In 1967, she is a schoolgirl coping with her mother's sudden disappearance. In 1977, she is a college coed considering a marriage proposal. In 1997, she is a young widow trying to piece her life back together. And in 2017, she yearns to be a grandmother but isn't sure she ever will be. Then, one day, Willa receives a startling phone call from a stranger. Without fully understanding why, she flies across the country to Baltimore to look after a young woman she's never met, her nine-year-old daughter, and their dog, Airplane. This impulsive decision will lead Willa into uncharted territory--surrounded by eccentric neighbors who treat each other like family, she finds solace and fulfillment in unexpected places. A bewitching novel of hope, self-discovery, and second chances, Clock Dance gives us Anne Tyler at the height of her powers.

Ribbon Cutting to Celebrate Reopening of Doors

It is indeed a new day at The Waterford at Deer Park. We are happy to say that we resumed full operations and began returning residents on July 2, 2018. It has been a long road of reconstruction, restoration and recovery. Many of you have travelled closely to this journey with us.

From community breakfast in March, when we spoke of the vision for the community and began quickly focusing on those areas while restoration of the building continued with many challenges. We began engaging in activities focused on the community’s recovery some of those including our thanks to those who have served this community, Our First Responders. We focused on the residents who would be returning and sought to find new and interesting things to bring them together such as The Lecture Series: Baker, Garrison, and Della Barbato, game day and other social events. We sought to give back to this community by sponsoring the Longest Day event for the Alzheimer’s association, raising dollars in the top 10 of all Capital Senior Living communities and receiving an award for the campaign from the Alzheimer’s association.

On the other side of these efforts, we have returned home about 20% of our residents. They have come home to a new culinary program, new and exciting events (arts & crafts, book club, lecture series, gardening) and a beautiful new environment to enjoy. Residents have quickly settled in and seem very happy to be back to their beloved homes.

I would like to express our appreciation to corporate and regional leadership who supported this community through some difficult and ever-changing challenges…. Darin Severson, Tina Tedford and the dedicated and devoted Waterford team who have been here through the recovery process or recently returned to their jobs. I am proud to lead this team. I would also like to recognize the families and residents who waited patiently for the reopening through varied trials themselves. It took all of us to get us to this day of renewal and new beginnings.

My heartfelt thanks go to each of you who have contributed to our successes. Also to those who came to and sponsored events, those who offered assistance in so many loving and giving ways. It truly is a great day in Deer Park on this one-year post Harvey. A truly great day to be a leader in this wonderful city.

Blessings to you!
Diane Parmer

The Waterford at Deer Park Recognized by The Alzheimer's Association

For the work that The Waterford Deer Park team completed with The Longest Day program, our staff was awarded recognition by the Alzheimer's Association's local representative, Samantha Duffy. The Waterford at Deer Park was one of 129 properties in the Capital Senior Living family that was helping with this wonderful cause. We are proud to say, even with our doors closed at the time, we raised the 2nd largest contribution, company-wide out of 129. A huge thank you go out to all our family, friends and supporters as we pooled together our resources, put on a wonderful event, and raised a generous amount of money to help in the fight versus Alzheimer's!
