New Resident Mixer November 16th

Our residents love any social occasion but especially the opportunity to meet and visit with new people living at The Waterford. We usually schedule these "Happy Hour" events shortly before supper so the residents can pique their appetites with a sip of grape juice or wine while they nibble on crackers and cheese. The best times are when folks discover connections they didn't know they had! Our next New Resident Mixer is Friday, November 16th, at 3:00 PM.

Halloween Fun!

Halloween is a hoot at The Waterford. We paint pumpkins, carve jack-o-lanterns, decorate the lobby, sample lots of candy and plan outfits for the October 31st party. This year it was particularly difficult to determine a favorite in the costume contest. Did first prize go to Rita J., the mysterious "Mata Hari"? How about Dottie C., a stylishly clad witch? The "Pink Cowboy," Charlie S.? Or "handsome hunk" Linda J.? Ultimately Jean B. won by a nose—the red nose, that is, on her clown-painted face. Second prize was awarded to Beverly S. in her colorful Native American headdress, and Stu P. took third as a questionably sober sailor.

Trick or Treat!

The Waterford welcomed an unusual pack of visitors this evening, including a dinosaur, an Egyptian princess, a raccoon and a knight in shining armor. It was our annual Trick or Treat event. This year the youngsters ventured into the residential wings to knock on apartment doors for candy rewards. The residents enjoyed extended personal interaction with the children, and the kids loved the authentic Trick-or-Treat experience. This little princess (a resident's granddaughter) was still all smiles after trooping to every participating resident's door in the entire building!

Kindermusik

This week our residents were treated to the delights of Kindermusik, a group of infants and toddlers led by Ellen Hartman. The tots, from months-old babies to 3 years, arrived decked out in their Halloween costumes. They performed musical routines using rhythm instruments, clapping and dancing inside their circle of caregivers. Even the tiniest musician participated! Residents drifted in throughout the hour, attracted by loud and prolonged applause from the activity room. We'll surely anticipate Kindermusik's next appearance—a welcome bright spot during the long winter months.

Happy Birthday!

The last Friday of each month, we celebrate birthdays with residents who've turned over another year in the current month. Residents turn out to help mark the occasion, sing "Happy Birthday," laugh over puzzles and savor a piece of cake. It's a great way to casually socialize and meet new people.

Was This in My Job Description?

Our staff arrives at The Waterford each morning not knowing what the day might hold, and more often than not, teamwork plays a major role in what we do. Last week our Marketing Director, Kari, joined our Maintenance Director, Jack, in repainting a former closet to a make a new office for our in-house Genesis Rehab Services.
